Michaela’s GCSE results are four times better than the national average

Pupils at Michaela in Wembley have SMASHED it with their GCSE results, with 54% of all exams graded 9-7!

These results mean an estimated Progress 8 score of +1.5 and would place Michaela firmly in the top 10 schools in the country based on last year’s results.

We’re so proud of our staff and pupils who have worked so hard to achieve these phenomenal results. But our pupils have so much more than excellent GCSE grades; we love teaching them kindness, gratitude and decency.

Michaela approved to open in Stevenage

We are delighted to share with you the fantastic news that the Department for Education (DfE) has today given Michaela Community School the go-ahead to enter the ‘pre-opening phase’. This is the first milestone in the journey to a successful opening in Stevenage as it means that we are now able to progress our plans and make our vision a reality.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all those who supported our application. We would also like to thank all parents and carers who stated that they would consider Michaela as a first choice option for their children. We look forward to meeting many of you in the near future and to working together to create an excellent 11-19 secondary school with a highly academic curriculum, high standards and exceptional outcomes for students that fits the needs of its local community.

One of the first tasks of the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) is to secure a suitable site for our school and a provisional opening date will be agreed with the DfE once a site has been secured. As stipulated by the ESFA, any potential sites will remain undisclosed until secured and we will release more information on the exact location of the school as soon as we are able.

In the meantime, we look forward to our first ‘kick-off’ meeting with the DfE and to developing our plans for the 11-19 secondary school. We will update on our progress through this website and through our Facebook page.

Thanks again to everyone who has got us to this point – please spread the word!

A positive interview

Our interview with the Department for Education was held yesterday and we are really pleased with how it went.

The 90-minute interview gave our team the chance to demonstrate in person to a panel of experts our vision, motivation and ability to run a successful 11-19 secondary free school in Stevenage and how it captures the demand that exists in the area. Our experienced team responded well to the robust questioning on all aspects of our application.

We really hope that we are able to share good news with you when we hear the outcome of our interview in the spring, along with more details of our exciting plans for Michaela in Stevenage.

Thank you as always for your tremendous support.

Please keep your fingers crossed!

Out and about in Stevenage

Thank you to all the parents and members of the local community we met in Stevenage today. It was great to share our proposal for Michaela with so many people who both recognise the need for an 11-19 secondary school with a highly academic curriculum, high standards and exceptional outcomes for students, and like what we have to say about what we’re planning.

We’ll continue to be out and about in Stevenage and the surrounding areas over the next few weeks sharing our plans for Michaela ahead of submitting our application through the Department for Education’s Free Schools Programme this autumn.

Michaela is also holding a community drop-in event to share information and collect views on this proposal to open a new secondary school in Stevenage. The event is being held at The Shephall Centre, Shephall Green, Stevenage, SG2 9XR on Monday 22nd October from 12.30pm – 6.30pm. Please visit our Events page and select a time slot to register for the event.

If you haven’t already done so, please complete the short form to help shape our vision for Michaela to the needs and ambitions of the community it will serve.

Exceptional secondary school planned for Stevenage

We are delighted to announce that our bid for a new secondary school in Stevenage will be submitted to the Department for Education this autumn.

We have chosen to establish Michaela in Stevenage to help meet the accelerating need for high-quality secondary school places in the growing town and also to increase parental choice and diversity of local secondary provision in the area.

If approved, Michaela Community School will be a non-denominational, non-fee paying, 11-19, mixed free school with a target opening date of 2023. It will follow the highly successful model established by Michaela in Wembley Park which opened in September 2014, has built a reputation as one of the most highly performing schools in the country and was graded ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted in May 2017. Michaela will continue this tradition of academic excellence, high standards and exceptional outcomes for students in Stevenage by bringing the values and advantages of a private education to young people of all backgrounds.

We are seeking the views of prospective parents, students and stakeholders prior to submitting our application, giving them the opportunity to help shape the school so that it meets the needs and ambitions of the community it will serve.

Please complete the short form to help shape our vision for Michaela in Stevenage, especially if you currently have children in Year 2 or below (due to start secondary school from 2023).
